any solutions............

Hi, have been long time i have not writein the blog. I have some problem here that wish to ask any for opinon or ideas what should or i can do. All my friends know I am coahing people of disablitlies for swimming every saturday at Jalan Bersah Swimming Pool which is a public pool. Why we choose there is because the pool is quite new with 1 disable toilet in the female toilet, 1 disble toilet in male toilet and 1 outside means a independent disable toilet. Every Saturday we start out class from 2 - 5 pm. I am there for around 4 yrs plus to 5 yrs and what I have discover is that many people saw so many wheel chair outside the independent disable toilet and yet still go into the toilet to use for more then 10 min. And when my members want to use and have to wait outside.

Recently worst, one uncle, can walk very good, and he told me that toilet is for old man one and chase my members out of the toilet? Firstly he is so stink till no one can tahan that smell. Second, he use toilet for more than 3 hours. I am so angry with this as 02pm I have about 5 members, 3 pm I have 4 members plus some of them are swimmers. So many members how to use only 3 disable toilet and plus this uncle using the toilets for hours. I really headace of this uncle, and I have talk to the management to let me lock the disable toilet for only saturday but still no news yet as he say need to investigate first.

So anyone out there got any suggestions about this write to me ok?

Self Service

This morning, 4 of us went for breakfast near Kovan MRT. When we reach coffee shop, only 2 stalls available, one is He Ji Bao and the other stall is fish ball noddles which just behind our table. So Kelvin order fish ball mee and 3 of us others 'dian sum'.

After 5 min, the fish ball man shout 'wei, come and take your noddles.' He ask Kelvin to take the bowl of noodles himself but how as he is on wheel chair. Well than that man shouted at 3 of us come and help to take. I was angry he I do not like to be shouted by someone early in the morning. Lucky we are around if not I wonder will he willing to take to Kelvin anot.

There was an occasion, we are in Serangoon Garden Food Center, Kelvin order 'Chao Kuai Tiao' and he wheel back to me and say, Can you help me to go over to that stall and take the 'Chao Kuai Tiao'? Wow.... all these people are not helpful enough to help him? Kelvin never can take himself as he already no leg and no where he can put his food.

Many many times, these hawkers are behaving not helpful and selfish. I know is self service but with all this cases, do you still insist tobe self- service? Maybe they should learn to be have better service.
Haizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, what a selfish and lousy service we have in Singapore!!!!!!!!

Good and Bad...........................

Yesterday, I was chatting with a friend and I told him I may fo play bowling with Kelvin and others. He ask me a very funny question: I thought disable are not allow to come out at night? I really shock and 'AH' who told you so? He thought all the disables stay in 'THE HOME' and are not allow to come out. Well from here I realized many people still do not really know about disable.

In the Mid morning about 2 am, I ask Kelvin if he want to have supper around Geylang area. He want to and I ask him to take a Cab, fetch Desmond along the way and myself. We reach Geylang Lorong 9 for 'You Tiao' and 'Dou Jiang'. 3 of us order our food and start eating, before Kelvin start eating he told us he forget to bring his 'Teeth Out'. HA HA HA HA HA.................

We talking and he told me about one incidents of his old heavy wheel chair. He used to have a heavy wheel chair and giving him a lot of trouble. One day, he waited for Taxi for long time, not peak hour yet a lot of empty Taxi pass by him. No taxi wanted to stop for him as they saw him sitting on a wheel chair. Finally a taxi stop infront of him and the driver come down to assist Kelvin to get into the taxi. She try to carry his wheel chair to the boots but..................too heavy for her. She tried and tried at the end, she give up and Poor Kelvin have to sit back on his wheel chair and wait for another taxi who willing to stop for him.

See thats always a problem for them to travel by Taxi when Taxi do not want to stop for those wheel chair users. I remember there is once, after we finish swimming at Jalan Bersah, 2 wheel chair user want to go back sharing a cab. I tried many taxi and no one stop for them so I asked them to hide themselves aside and I waved for the taxi. Within one minute I got the taxi and I told the taxi, Vincent need to be carry into the Taxi and there are 2 wheel chairs putting in the boots. You know what? He say sorry I cannot do that and drove off. One tried for a few taxi also same problem. Finally I got a taxi who willing to take them but I need to carry Vincent to the Taxi myself and I need to carry those wheel chair to the boots myself too. That day I was really mad with all the Taxi but do not wish to complaint as there are too many taxi behave like this.

Well there are also good taxi uncle out there. Like one of the Taxi Uncle always carry Vincent in and out of the taxi and also push Vincent back home. He is a good and understanding Taxi.

I hope in future taxi should stop for those wheel chair user and do not stay away from them. I know they are afraid of kanna disease that is why they always dun carry. But at least come down and help the disable into taxi and put their wheel chair in the boots, dun just stop and drove away.

Accessible Toilets For Wheelchair Users

Hey I saw this in Peter Tan Blog and he allow me to copy and paste it in my blog. I think he explain good of Toilets For wheelchair Users.

Toilets for disabled persons are basically ones that are large enough to allow the manoeuvring of a wheelchair inside. The more correct term for such facilities is accessible toilets for wheelchair users; hence they are marked with the international symbol of accessibility on the doors. The doors open out and are affixed with lever locks, bars and large latches that are can be operated by hands with poor dexterity.

Fixtures are all within easy reach and suited for use to those with limited hand function. Grab bars on both sides of the closet bowls allow for easy transfer from wheelchair and vice versa. The height for washbasins is just right for a wheelchair user to use. An alarm with cord makes it very useful when the need to summon for help arises.

The floors should be dry and clean. Hands of wheelchair users usually come in contact with tyres. Rolling over wet floors will dirty the wheels and the hands as well. Likewise the closet bowls and washbasins should be clean as hands will often come into contact with it.
There is a need for such toilets because the cubicles in normal public toilets are usually small, inaccessible and not adapted for the use of disabled persons. Washbasins in such toilets are usually placed in the common areas and not positioned for convenient use of those on wheelchairs.

There is a reason why non-disabled persons are prohibited from using such toilets. Repeated use and abuse will damage and make the toilets dirty, wet and unusable to disabled persons. For every ten to twelve usable toilets for gents and ladies, there is only one that is accessible to wheelchairs. An unusable accessible toilet will greatly inconvenience a disabled person who needs to use one urgently.

Many people with disabilities have poor or no control over their bowels and bladders. Some disabled persons suffer from chronic kidney failure and need use the toilets to perform intermittent catheterisation, failing which the kidneys will be further damaged or infection sets in. This is another reason why these toilets must be left vacant for such contingencies because they are the only handful that is accessible to wheelchairs at any one place.

Toilets for disabled persons is a right, not a privilege. A barrier free environment provides people with disabilities a better quality of life by allowing them to participate and be contributing members of society. To deprive people with disabilities these basic amenities is to infringe on their rights and dignity. Whither civil society when selfishness reigns and the needs of people with disabilities are disregarded and ignored?

Human Pride

Last night, when I was chatting with a friend about this Blog, he read What I wrote about Soh and give me some comments.

1. He asked me what Soh want to proof about himself? Is it that he still can drive, work and go around with sports?
Ans: My friend told me that Soh want us to see him as normal as he can. I agreed this with him very much. Everyone want to be treat normal.

2. Why didn't he ask those lady out there about his problem of toileting?
I have no answer with that as I cannot think of any answer so I refer back to Soh.

Soh told me who will going around telling people that he have no feeling in his lower part of body and need to do speical toileting or wearing pamper or urine bag around? I need pride also and I want them to treat me normal right? Instead of tell those ladies out there queuing, he ask the sercurity guard for help and the guard there ask him to queue up as well.

I have thought it over what Soh said was right. Everyone in this world need pride especially when a man facing ladies. Well do think about it ok. See ya

Queuing for Toilet.......................

Last week I went dinner with Mr. Soh inside a shopping complex. Soh is on wheel-chair for 11 years cause by a fell from a crane while trying to repair. He breaks his spinal T11 and he lost his man ability. But he still enables to drive, to work and at the same time a leader of Archery.

After dinner, he wants to go toilet to do his toileting before too late. Due to his conditions he did to use a tube to release all his urine every certain hour. So he wheel to the handicaps toilet and he saw a few ladies queuing outside the handicaps toilet just the Female toilet are full too. In this type of satiation, what should he do and should he ask for those ladies to let him go in first? When he wheel there he is too shy and afraid to open his mouth and have to follow the queue as nobody want to give way to him.

Poor Soh, wait till his turn to go in to the toilet to do his toileting, his urine already leak out of his pant. What kind of attitude we have out there towards people of disables? And where is all kindness of Human gone? Is this a Selfish World? Why our government builds this handicap toilet and lifts every where and who are they building for?

Hi all Singaporean,

After I read an articles about the disable toilet, I decide to start this article for all Singaporeans who do not know more about people of the disables.

First of all, let me introduce those person in the picture. The 1st man from the left, is Mr. Goh, 52 years old. He can swim very good free style and now training under Mr. Ang Peng Siong for Sea Game in coming December. Mr. Goh has only one leg and the other leg is a fake one but he can swim 50m free style at less than 40 second.

Beside Mr. Goh, a fat lady in blue hat is me. I am their volunteering swimming instructor cum friend. I am doing on my own Travel Planners Online. Every Saturday my other volunteers and I will be teaching these people of disable swimming and some exercise to help them to recover.

The one beside me, beautiful lady sitting on wheelchair is Huiyu. She is 24 and injured at her age of 22. She broke her spinal and need to sit on wheel chair. She is a clever and cheerful girl and she always feel that one of the day she will be walking on her own without wheel chair. She started to learn swimming beginning of this year and in July she got a new record in the swimming competition.

Jeffery is the gentleman next to Huiyu. He is a little of disable and could live as a normal man life. He has a life guard certificate and maybe you saw him in The New Paper once.

The man obviously without leg, is Kelvin Ho. Due to blood circulations problem and smoking, his 2 legs gone. So think twice before you start smoking. Although he have no leg but he never give out sports and games like: swimming, bowling, sailing and more. He join swimming last year and this year he got the courage to take part in the competitions for 50, 100 and 200 meters breast stroke. Beside sports, we go Karaoke often and tonight we are going to Karaoke again, want to join us?

So after my introduction of these people, what comments do you have or what you need to say please pls free to email me @ chris@go4tour.com.
